Another commercial company is harnessing the open source power of Solr to improve its offerings.  PR.com reports on the latest release from Upshot Commerce in, “Upshot Commerce Integrates with Solr for Full Faceted Search Optimization.”  The author gives an overview:

Upshot Commerce, a provider of on-demand, fully customizable ecommerce software solutions, recently announced new search system integration with Solr from the makers of Apache. This new integration allows users of the Upshot Commerce Core Platform to improve their website search functionality with Solr’s popular faceted onsite search solution.  Faceted or guided search allows the consumer to refined searches dynamically with layered navigation, narrowing down a search by parameters such as color, size or specific keywords.

Another company famously harnessing the power of Solr is LucidWorks.  An industry leader for the long-term, LucidWorks has recently consolidated their offerings, now supporting LucidWorks Search and LucidWorks Big Data.  Both solutions are fully supported, including training and Cloud hosting.  Open source is a great place to start for innovation and affordability, but adding another level of support can truly elevate your organization’s internal and external technology offerings.
