Big Data takes Center Stage

Big Data is already a hot topic in the enterprise world and according to The Serverside.com article “Big Data takes Center Stage at the 2012 Liferay Symposium” it was the talk of this year’s Liferay Symposium.  The event produced a great turnout and there were several notable speakers.  The theme of the event was “Open for Business.”  Several things were discussed at the event.  Liferay’s Marketplace and product enhancements to the portal were discussed in great deal.  However, the surprising topic of the event was Big Data.

It’s not a topic that has been overly prevalent in past years, but this year MongoDB has been presenting in the exhibition hall, and a number of consulting firms are pushing the Big Data, CMS and Portal trifecta.  Big Data isn’t a term you would consider synonymous with CMS and presentation tier technologies, but apparently more and more organizations are finding it a challenge managing all of their different content streams.

How to handle Big Data has become a pressing problem in many organizations.  With the amount of data continuing to grow and companies trying to manage data from various content streams many enterprises are finding that there is no easy answer to this problem.  With so many experts in the building, this event was a great place to not only discuss Big Data but to brainstorm on ways to solve the data challenge.  When you look at companies such as LucidWorks and their ability to help enterprises tackle their Big Data and keep their businesses running smoothly, you really understand how important Big Data can be.
