According to the CMS Critic article “New DotCMS 2.1 Release Offers Easier Administration and Manageability” the release of the new DotCMS 2.1 brings some major improvements to the already solid platform.
DotCMS 2.1 has been released today and with it come a number of improvements to the java based, open source CMS. Specific changes include an improved site search, scheduled workflow tasks, content improvements, remote widgets and an integrated help system.
One of the big upgrades is improved site search using Elastic Search. This will enable the creation of independent indexes throughout various search sections on any Web site. Users will now have the ability to search index a variety of office documents and other type of content. Another big plus is having the option to schedule Workflow Action. Users will enjoy being able to perform tasks such as create automatic review dates for content as well as an improved Workflow search process. Improved Administration and Management allow users to get real time Index Details and Cluster Statistics with the simple swipe of their mouse. Added content improvements such as remote widgets and an integrated help system help to further improve the overall user experience.
The new upgrades definitely bring some notable upgrades but with the importance of search, its unclear whether Elastic Search is the best option out there. Competitors such as LucidWorks offer a lot when it comes to search but in a small easy to use and affordable package.
